Jakarta Preparing US$315.4 Mn for Tap Water

VIVAnews - The Jakarta administration will be investing Rp 3 trillion (US$315.4 million) for setting up tap water installation. The project is seen profitable for the city inhabitants as well as to secure Jakarta water supply within the next 30 years.

"We are discussing about the options and measures that will be taken by the Jakarta administration in securing water supply," said Jakarta governor Fauzi Bowo on Thursday, Nov 5.

In the meanwhile, member of Water Supply Company Regulator Firdaus Ali said the project is expected of being able to save the budget because the pipelines will be installed by Kali Malang River, East Jakarta.

Firdaus said the project will help drain the contribution from water supply companies Palyja and Aetra to process water from Jatiluhur dam, West Java.

Given the system, water price set for the people will not be risen.

"The water price can be set down instead," he said.

According to Firdaus, water supply in Jakarta is mostly satisfied by Water Supply Company (PAM) and ground water utilization.

The tap water system will meet water supply in Jakarta by 4,000 liters per second.

For the time being, PAM supplies water by around 16,000 liters per second.

"The demand for water in Jakarta reaches more than 20,000 liters per second," he said.

The Jakarta administration is also designing to recycle industrial wastes as well as the water taken from 13 rivers in Jakarta.

He conceded the fact that not every Jakarta inhabitant is supplied by PAM.
