VIVAnews - During the third quarter of the year, ad expenditure in print and broadcast media has reached Rp 35.5 trillion in which tens of trillions of Rupiah were dominated by political parties’ campaign.
“The legislative and presidential elections in April and July have boosted ad expenditure for political and governmental category, especially in newspapers,” Nielsen Media Indonesia’s Associate Director Client Service, Ika Jatmikasari said in Jakarta on November 5.
According to the survey conducted by Nielsen in 24 TV stations, 103 newspapers and 165 magazines and tabloids, ad expenditure for the category of politics and government has increased 108 percent from last year.
From January to September 2009, ad expenditure in the particular category reaches Rp 2.92 trillion which consists of Rp 1.785 trillion worth of newspapers ads and Rp 1.108 trillion of TV ads.
In detail, ads belonging to Golkar Party have dominated the newspapers during the first nine months of the year with the rise up to 1.012 percent to Rp 189 billion compared to the same period last year.
Meanwhile, Democratic Party only spent Rp 86 billion on newspaper ads during the same period with 975 percent escalation compared to the same period last year.
As for presidential and vice presidential candidacy ads, the expenditure reaches Rp 307 billion which comprises Rp 212 billion of TV commercials and Rp 95 billion of newspapers ads.
In the same category, ad expenditure in magazines and tabloids was surprisingly in the last position with only Rp 28 billion.
Ad expenditure during the third quarter went up 13 percent compared to the same period last year. “Ad expenditure until the third quarter of the year has shown the same pattern with the one came up last year. Ad expenditure during the second and third quarter always go up and reaches its peak in the third quarter,” Jatmikasari said.
